Tips for the Unemployed Teenager: How to Score the Interview

In today's economy its extremely hard for anyone to find a job, especially for us teens. But have no fear, I have some great tips for scoring that interview, and getting the job! Keep reading.

First, call the business that you applied to three days after you applied. This gives the hiring manager a little time to review your application. When you reach the third day, call that business and ask to speak to the manager/hiring manager. Let them know your name and tell them you submitted an application and wanted to know if they are interviewing anytime soon. Be as direct as you can. It lets them know you want the job. If they say 'Yes! We are interviewing, what time would you want to come in?' Or 'Can you come in....' (says certain time and day), then make sure you already have a day in mind so you are not babbling like an idiot. It will go a lot smoother if you are prepared!

Now you have gotten the interview scheduled and you're almost there! Before you go into the interview make sure you have a folder with a copy of your resume. This is important because your interviewer will be impressed that you came prepared. I remember one time I forgot my resume at an interview, and when the manager asked if I had a resume I was embarrassed because I knew I looked bad and unprepared. Another thing to make sure of is that you look clean and professional. Take this job interview seriously!

During the interview, be calm and collected. If you are nervous act like you aren't and you and the interviewer will believe it! Just remember that you are selling yourself to the manager, and you want to stand out from the rest! Make sure you go in believing you are the best person for this job, and you will know its true!

Good luck!
